Developed through an RHP competition exploring new models for later-life housing, Somerville House challenges the conventional institutional approach to elderly living.
The design begins with the needs and aspirations of its residents, placing community, independence and individual ownership at the centre of the scheme. Living units are arranged around a familiar street-like space within an adaptable structural grid, creating a setting that is simple, dignified and aspirational.
