This development involved the extension and upgrade of a modest 2-bedroom bungalow in leafy Surrey where the team won planning to extend the house from 160sqm to nearly 500sqm. The specific aim was to retain the existing the bungalow and recycle, so the team overclad the original house in insulation and stone and extended it one storey higher through lightweight timber framing being careful to go only fractionally taller than the original bungalow in order to meet strict local planning regulations.  An extension clad in Scottish larch was added to the side connected to the original house via a glazed link that acts as the stair core covered with a zinc roof – lowered in order to break up the massing and differentiate the new section from the old bungalow.
